Why choose Josée as your wedding officiant?

A service designed for intimate weddings and elopements

Getting married in the great outdoors is pure magic… but it can also add a bit of stress when you’re trying to find someone willing to hike up a mountain, stand by a waterfall or venture into the heart of a remote forest to officiate your ceremony. We often saw our couples excited for their elopement, but a little lost when it came to this step.

Then one day, after a sunrise elopement, Patrick turned to Josée and said it would make so much sense for her to become an officiant. And everything just clicked. It would take one more worry off our couples’ shoulders and make their day even more seamless.

Since then, our full experience also includes officiating your union, unless you prefer to give that role to someone close to you. And the moment “You may kiss!” echoes through the trees, she picks up her camera again and we both continue documenting your adventure without interruption or hassle. You stay fully present — we take care of everything else.

Our tailor-made services for an unforgettable elopement

A complete experience, made simple

As intimate wedding and elopement photographers in Québec, we offer a complete three-part experience. Everything is designed for celebrations of 20 people or fewer, so your day can unfold naturally, without stress, and in a way that truly reflects who you are.

How to get legally married in Quebec

We know that paperwork isn’t the most exciting part of planning a wedding. But don’t panic! We’ll explain your options so that everything is in order:

If Josée is your wedding officiant

She takes care of everything! No need to worry, Josée handles all the paperwork with the Directeur de l’État civil. Whether you live in Quebec or elsewhere, she’ll let you know which documents to provide and take care of the rest. If needed, she can even help find your witnesses!

If you choose a loved one as the officiant

Would you prefer a friend or family member to celebrate your union? This is possible thanks to the status of one-day officiant. But be careful: in this case, it is up to you (and your designated officiant) to complete all the administrative procedures with the Directeur de l’état civil to ensure that the marriage is valid.

FAQ Intimate Wedding & Elopement Officiant in Quebec

We know that planning an intimate wedding raises lots of small (and big) questions. Don’t worry: we’ve got the answers right here!

Ceremony location

Yes! Josée can legally celebrate your union, even far from big cities.

No, Josée is only authorized to perform legal marriages in Quebec. If you dream of eloping elsewhere in Canada or internationally, we can still organize a symbolic (and magical!) ceremony and make your marriage legal in Quebec before or after. This is what most couples do to make things easier. The other option is that we suggest the services of a celebrant at your destination.

Legal aspects and planning

Once the documents have been filed, it generally takes 20 days before the ceremony (legal deadline imposed by the Directeur de l’État civil). We therefore advise you to book Josée as soon as possible to ensure that everything is ready on time.

Yes, of course! Josée will take care of the formalities with the Directeur de l’état civil and guide you through the documents you need to provide.

It is a close relative (often a friend or family member) who obtains special authorization from the Directeur de l’État civil to perform your marriage ceremony. In this case, it is up to you to take care of all the legal formalities.

Yes, if necessary! We can help you find someone if you don’t want to invite any guests.

Wedding ceremony experience

Absolutely! Josée takes the time to explain the ceremony step by step and build it with you, so that it truly reflects who you are. You can add personal vows, a symbolic ritual, a special reading, or even the participation of your loved ones.

In general, a ceremony lasts about 30 minutes. But it all depends on what you want to include! Since Josée personalizes it with you—vows, symbolic rituals, readings, or speeches by loved ones—the duration can be adapted to your vision of this unique moment.

Yes! Josée can celebrate in French, English, or a bilingual format, depending on your needs.

Services and exclusivity

In principle, no. The officiant service is exclusively for couples who also book Love is Nord’s photography & planning services. This allows us to provide an intimate, seamless experience from start to finish. Very rare exceptions can sometimes be considered, though.
