Ah! The Magdalen Islands, this place of sheer beauty in the province of Quebec. This is where it all started for Josée and I, as a couple, as travelers and as photographers. So it was clear that this destination had long been on our bucket list to go and photograph an intimate wedding.
Last spring, we received a nice request from Camila & Nicolas. They wanted to get married in an intimate way in a place that would offer breathtaking landscapes and have their honeymoon at the same time. They had thought of the North Shore (Côte-Nord) and Anticosti, which are obviously excellent choices. But it was as we were talking with them on a Zoom call that Josée felt the desire to praise the Magdalen Islands to them as a potential location for their intimate wedding. Since they are a well-grounded, enthusiastic and very easy going couple, they fell in love with our description of the Magdalen Islands. They decided to let themselves be guided by us to organize the logistics of the trip and immortalize these precious moments in pictures.
Speaking of logistics, they decided to sign the official papers at the town hall before their departure, but they decided to do the vows and rings exchange on the islands. They could well have retained the services of a wedding officiant on the islands, but they still wanted to share this moment with their parents. Both options are possible, that’s the beauty of an intimate wedding, as there are no rules to follow.
Once there, we took the opportunity to introduce them to our favorite places on the islands as we had traveled there six times before. We knew each island well and did several photo sessions in different places (beach, lagoon, hill, red cliffs) before photographing their wedding. If you’re tempted to see what these photoshoots look like, they are over here.
During these few days spent on the islands, we arranged for us all to have our moments of privacy so they could go exploring on their own, but we were always very happy to get together to share a picnic or a drink on the beach.
We clicked right away with Camila & Nicolas! It felt like we were meeting old friends. All this time spent together allowed us to get to know each other and to develop a real bond. A beautiful friendship was born.
On the day of their intimate wedding in the Magdalen Islands, we had to go with plan B about the location where they would exchange their vows while respecting their only condition: to get married on the beach.
So we turned on a dime and after a few getting ready photos in the trailer they had rented, we photographed their first look in a small cove on the island of Havre Aubert. We then headed to Dune du Sud beach. We gave them time to soak up the beauty of the place before exchanging their vows just before sunset. We then celebrated by sharing a bottle of champagne as the sky went on fire and gave us one of the most beautiful shows we have ever seen.
IT WAS A SIMPLE INTIMATE WEDDING, WITHOUT ANY FUSS. LIKE THEY ARE. AND LIKE WE ARE. JUST A COUPLE MADLY IN LOVE WHO COMMITTED TO BEING PRESENT FOR EACH OTHER ALL OF THEIR LIFE. THIS IS WHAT A WEDDING SHOULD BE ABOUT.
These pictures speak for themselves We feel so grateful for these times we spent with them, and for the most beautiful light we’ve ever seen, that words are completely unnecessary.
