When Sangeeta & Frank contacted us, they had a very specific idea in mind of the kind of fall landscape they wanted to be surrounded by to celebrate their intimate wedding, but they needed help finding it – as do 100% of our couples! Originally from Ontario, they wanted to take advantage of their planned stay in Charlevoix to get married since they had very fond memories of a previous trip there. But it was impossible for them to do location scouting, as we call it in the business. No reason to fret as we’ve got you covered. And we love doing it! It’s part of our DNA and Love is Nord was born from our love of landscape photography.

So we asked them to share with us exactly what their vision for their wedding was: 

• an unobstructed view of the Charlevoix mountains
• an elevated view of the St. Lawrence River
• easy access without having to hike
• a colorful fall landscape

Another detail: they wanted to have a simple ceremony with an officiant and a few close friends. Once the ceremony was over, they wanted to exchange personal vows in privacy and continue with couple photos. So we set up a timeline to do just that. Having an intimate wedding allows for so much more latitude in how you want your day to go!

In short, to find the perfect location, we did a lot of research, on the internet, social media, Google Earth and especially on site – during several outings in nature. We re-discovered one of our favorite places in Charlevoix that perfectly matched their vision: Le Massif de Charlevoix. 

Super popular in winter for its ski trails that seem to drop you right into the sea, the Massif de Charlevoix is less known for its hiking trails. It must be said that the mountain is accessible to hikers according to a very specific schedule. But it is really worth the detour! The location where Sangeeta & Frank got married is accessible after an easy walk of about 15 minutes. The Massif de Charlevoix allows couples access to its private territory under certain conditions. By the way, let us digress for one moment… When Patrick and I do location scouting, we always want to go and see the place in person. Maybe you think you’ve found the perfect place to get married because the picture you saw on Instagram is spectacular, but once you’re there…

• Is the location really suitable for a wedding ceremony (if you have to stand on a 45% slope, it might be tough! LOL)? 
• Is the location spacious enough for you, the officiant and your guests (if any) to stand in? 
• Will your photographers have enough room to move around without being in your bubble? 
• Is it a single point of view (which could result in redundant photos) or are there many different beautiful perspectives? 
• Is there an element that blocks part of the landscape that is not visible in the reference photo?
• Will you have a minimum of privacy or are there likely be many other visitors passing by? 
• And most importantly! Is it allowed to stand in that spot? On Instagram, we so often see photos taken in places we know for a fact people aren’t allowed to be, it’s infuriating. Not only does it show a blatant lack of respect, but also a lack of concern for the environment.
